Congratulations on graduating high school! It’s truly a big accomplishment. Now we are heading into the countdown until the big day; the first day of college.
There’s so much to do in such a little time. From working to prepping for leaving on your own. Read along about all the things you should do before leaving for college.
What Should I Do Before I Leave For College?
You probably have a huge list of tasks that need to be done before going to college. Here are the top 10 things that MUST be completed before heading off to college this Fall!
1. Finalize Everything For College
The summer before college begins you’ll have to pay a few deposits, submit some paperwork, and possibly complete a portfolio and/or an exam for a class.
2. Working a Summer Job
For the first few weeks on campus, you’re going to be super busy finding your classes, making new friends, and catching up with a new curriculum before looking for a new part-time job on campus.
Take the time this summer to make a few extra bucks. This can help you with purchasing your school supplies and dorm room essentials.
3. Clean OutYour Room!
Yes, senior year was a busy one, however now it’s time to tackle down and clean your room. Get rid of some stuff you never use and declutter. While you’re away from college, your parents may use this time to renovate the house and you don’t want them to misplace your things.
Look into getting some large clear storage bins. it’s easy to see what’s inside and can be labeled as well.
4. Learn How To Cook
Planning to live on campus with a kitchenette? Then it’s time to learn how to cook! Pinterest is the best place to learn quick and easy meals you can try out on campus.
Your parents will be more than welcome to be your test tasters (Plus it gives them one night without cooking.)
5. Connect With Your Potential Roommate
A lot of the time your colleges will send out your roommate information early, just to give you time to connect with your roommate prior to the first day of school.
Take the time to reach out and see what they’re bringing. Just so you don’t even up buying the same things.

6. Invest In A New Laptop
After I finish high school, my laptop was on its last run. Luckily my parents and I agree to look into getting a new laptop for College. Smartest move I had ever done because only a few short months into school my high school laptop stop turning on.
Take a hard good look at your current laptop situation. Will it last the first year of college? Or is it time to look into getting a new one?
Make sure to check your college website to see which laptops are approved for your program.
7. Get a Checkup
Doctor checkups, dentist, eye doctors, everything! You want to make sure you’re fully prepared to go off to college. Inside and out.
Get stocked up on medication you may use, and see if you need eyeglasses. It’s better to always be prepared. Plus it’s super hard to find a new doctor in an area you’re only staying for school.
8. Spend Some time with your friends
Go see a movie, spend the day at the beach, and have a game night. These are your last days of spending time together before you all go your separate ways.
Remember you can always stay in contact and meet up on breaks.
9. Spend Some time with your parents
Yes I know, not every teenager wants to spend time with their parents these days. But they’re going to miss you and you’re going to miss them.
Go out to dinner with them once in a while, and take them up on that offer to go grocery shopping. Because before you know it, you’ll be off to college and you’ll miss hearing them nag about leaving your stuff everywhere (probably not).
10. Take the time to relax
College is one super fast and super busy time in your life. You will be going through so many things that you’ll feel like you never have time for yourself.
Take this summer to have moments with yourself before leaving for college. Love reading books? go to your favorite spot and read a couple of chapters. Have a favorite coffee shop? go there for a latte.
