Benefits of Having a Work-From-Home Job as a Mom
Working from home or doing anything with your child can be hard enough. However, I want you to look into the benefits of why working from home as a mom is an option for you;
Expense Of Childcare
Looking at putting your child in childcare alone is a cost of a mortgage. With the more children you have, the more the cost of childcare comes into play. By working from home you save your family thousands of dollars that can be allocated somewhere else.
You Want To See Your Child Grow
I always believe the saying that time is a thief. Because children grow up so fast. Working from home allows you to see those milestones happen and also be the first one to experience them.
You Have a Child With Special Needs
Children with special needs tend to need more attentive care from their parents. Either that is needing to be taken to doctor appointments, only attending school half day, and more. Having a flexible job at home as a mom helps you with that.
No More Climbing The Corporate Ladder
As women, the second we become moms and go on maternity leave we tend to get behind on our careers. No matter the occupation. We may get fired from our jobs, and miss out on raises and opportunities all while choosing to become a mom.
This also includes having to be the default parent and having to be the one to stay home when they’re sick, or when they are off from school. However, having a flexible job from home prevents you from missing out on making more money while attending to your family.
Now that we went over the benefits of working from home, let’s talk about what type of jobs you can do as a mom.
What is The Best Job For a Stay-At-Home Mom?
Some of the jobs you can do online, or in person. But overall the main concept of these jobs is for you to stay at home with your children.
P.S: MLMs are not listed!
1. Customer Service Rep
This one may need you on a set schedule however can be done from home. Is a customer service representative! You can answer phone calls, chat boxes, or emails to help solve customer’s problems for companies.
2. Amazon Video Reviews
Have you ever gone to a product on Amazon and as you scroll down you see videos of people sharing reviews of the products? Did you know those people get paid to do that?!
This is what we call the Amazon influencer program!
To qualify you need a small following on social media (Instagram or TikTok) and a few products around the house that you can find on Amazon.
No, you don’t need to show your face or post these videos on your social media page. I have seen people make between $20-$3000 a month doing these!
3. Transcriber
If you have great listening skills and type super fast. Then becoming a transcriber is just for you. You can find this job mostly in the medical field.
The main task is for you to listen to an audio clip and type exactly what you hear at the same time.
Here are some sites where you can apply to become a transcriber;
4. Virtual Assistant
A common and mostly-demand job out there online.
I notice a lot of business owners are looking for a virtual assistant to help with scheduling, posting on social media, replying to emails, and other online day-to-day tasks.
Becoming a virtual assistant has no requirement and no experience from you. Start promoting yourself online, through friends and family that you are offering virtual assistant services.
Bonus if you specialize in something that can put you over the edge. For example; Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, and project management software.
5. Social Media Manager
Do you like posting and knowing everything about social media? You can make a job out of helping brands post on social media.
A lot of influencers, content creators, and business owners are looking for a social media manager to schedule/post content, reply to comments, and keep up with the latest trends.
6. Proofreader/Beta Reader
If you like to read in your spare time, why not get paid for it?
You can work as a proofreader or a beta reader. A proofreader reads over manuscripts and/or articles to check for spelling mistakes, grammar, and any errors.
A beta reader is a person who reads an author’s manuscript before publication. Meaning that you can be one of the first readers to read an author’s book before it hits the stores.
A beta reader gives criticism and feedback on books. It can be about the characters, the storyline, or even the plot.
You can list your services on; Fiverr, Upwork, or promote your services on Instagram.
7. Childcare/Nanny/Babysitter
This job may not always be a work-from-home opportunity however you can bring your child with you!
You can become a babysitter or a nanny for a family. You can help the family do some light cleaning, watch their children, and cook meals for the kids. Some parents are even okay with you bringing your child with you to work!
You can do this full day or if your child is in grade school, you can offer after-school care services. Care.com offers to help you match with a family that you can help!
Another option is running your home child care center. Childcare is always needed everywhere. You can set your hours of operation, limit the amount of children you can have in your care, have your child attend, and create your curriculum.
I highly suggest researching the criteria of your local area on how to open your home daycare. You may need licensing or have an inspection done before opening.
8. Dog Walker
If you love dogs and being outdoors. Becoming a dog walker is a great job you can do as a stay-at-home mom.
You can take your child with you in their stroller for walks while taking the dogs out. You can look into registering on Rover. Where you can set your schedule, pet size preferences, and more.
9. Freelance Writer
Have a love for writing or have a degree? You can become a freelance writer. You can find jobs on
- Upwork
- Fiverr
- Problogger
- Facebook groups
You don’t need any prior experience however having some knowledge of certain topics can give you leverage.
10. Digital Marketing
I have been seeing a lot of hate on social media about digital marketing but if you find the right resources, digital marketing works!
The hardest part is coming up with a product that is needed. It could be a mommy planner, a to-do list, ebook with tips and tricks.
You can create your product on Canva, sell it through a Stan store or an Etsy shop, and promote your product on social media like TikTok and Instagram.
Looking for a digital product that is needed? Find your answers on Reddit or even on Threads!
11. Online Seller
Looking into selling a product without story inventory in your home? Check out drop shipping or even print-on-demand. You can create your website or sell it through Etsy.
All you have to do is find a product you want to sell and a platform to list your items and you’re good to go!
12. Social Media Content Creator/Influencer
Have you ever scrolled on Instagram or TikTok and seen some of the people you follow go on trips, get packages from brands, and get to live a cool life?
They get to do that by creating content. It may seem easy but trust me it’s a lot of work and takes time to build.
If you haven’t already created a social media account post content about your life or come up with different content pillars you want to talk about on your page.
Sooner or later (once you build a following) you can pitch to brands, apply to influencer marketing platforms, or some brands may reach out to you to create content around their brand.
I have heard of influencers making over $1000 a sponsored post!
Besides brand sponsorship here are some other ways you can make money on social media;
- affiliate marketing
- Digital products
- Physical products
I highly suggest creating an email just for sponsor opportunities and aligning yourself with brands that you use or go along with your niche.
13. Blogger
This one I do and I have to warn you can take a bit of time to grow an income!!
Blogging is a long game and you can learn so much along the way. You get to create a website that you control and are not under the Meta slaves.
You can build an email list with subscribers (basically your followers) that you keep and will see your content if you share with them!
You don’t have to worry about the algorithm or anything.
It does take a long research and resources to learn how to start a blog and also maintain it. But I have to say that once you have your blog in momentum, you can make passive income.
Here are some ways on how you can make money from your blog;
- Affiliate links
- Brand sponsorships
- Advertisement
- Digital products
- Physical products
It does sound very similar to being an influencer however the difference is that;
- you can make more money through social media
- You can build a following fast on social media
- You have to write A LOT as a blogger. Like a love and passion for writing. If not I highly suggest taking the influencer route.
Blogging may take a long time to build but it’s super rewarding.
14. Start a YouTube Channel
If you don’t want to go down the blogging path, you can make money by creating a YouTube channel.
I find that a YouTube channel is similar to a blog however it’s very video-based. Instead of writing, you’re putting yourself out there with a camera. You will have to learn how YouTube promotes videos, editing, and more.
Ways you can make money with a YouTube channel;
- Brand sponsorship
- YouTube ads
- Your product (physical or digital)
- Affiliate links
YouTube is something you have to build long-term to also get long-term results.
15. Teach Online
Have a university degree and enjoy being around children? As an online teacher, you can teach children English or certain school subjects.
You can do it from the comfort of your home, with a laptop (webcam included) and with the material the company will provide you with or you can have your own.
A lot of schedules can be made during your kid’s nap time or at night time when they are asleep.
Here is a list of places you can tutor; m
16. Selling Used Items
After having my son, I soon started to realize how much stuff we were accumulating. Bouncer chairs, baby carriers, clothes, toys, etc.
I was about to send it all to donations when I saw an ad online that I could sell my son’s used clothes and toys/gear.
If your items are in mint condition then you can also sell them and make money! You can sell items on;
- Facebook Marketplace
- Once Upon A Child/used children’s clothing store
- Postmark
If you want to make this a business you can scout garage sales that have used toys, clean them up, and resale them for a profit.
17. Travel Consultant
Yes, travel consultants/agents can work from home with flexible hours. You can work for an agency and help clients book vacations, plan itineraries, or book flights for them.
I know a ton of people who are Disney booking consultants who help families plan Disney trips within their budget range.
You may need to complete a course/ some training before starting this job. However you can work from home, with flexible hours, and some agencies offer perks to their agents! Such as discounts on flights and vacation packages.
18. Bookkeeping
Not a lot of people know this, Business owners need a bookkeeper for the finances of their company.
You could be looking after a small company payroll, input expenses and losses, and more. A lot of companies tend to use Quickbooks.
Quickbooks offers a few courses (does cost money!) that you can take and become a Quickbooks expert. You can create a social media profile, or offer your services on Fiverr.
19. Baking Business
Something I have seen up and coming in the past few years is moms running baking companies. Where they make cakes, cookies, dipped strawberries about more.
Some people make it for clients that need it for kid’s birthday parties, corporate parties, or just a little gift for Valentine’s Day.
If you love to bake and have the skills to create different designs. You can start your own baking business.
You may have to build your following first however sooner or later you’ll gain a traction of clients flooding your way!
Remember to think about the cost of your supplies, permits, if your clients have to pick them up or you have to deliver the baked goods, and also the time and labor that goes into creating these baked goods.
Overall…
As a mom, you want to see your children grow while also having the money to do other things. Sometimes 9-5 jobs don’t always work for your schedule and that’s okay.
I hope this list of job ideas helps you find something that can allow you to stay home with your kiddos.
