Baby is on the way and you’re wondering how you will fit all the baby stuff inside your home. This is a sign to declutter before the baby’s arrival.
It’s super important to make space for the baby so that you are not stressed out from living in clutter and can focus on your bundle of joy!
This blog post will explain what you need to declutter before the baby comes.
Why Should You Declutter Before The Baby?
Babies take a lot of space. With their bottles, diapers, toys, and equipment you want to make sure you have that extra space for them. I didn’t realize how much space babies took until we had our son.
I needed space for bottles, formula cans, toys, clothes, and his highchair. Having the extra space already prepared helped a LOT!
How To Declutter Before The Baby Arrives?
Start a Checklist
Start a checklist of places that need to be decluttered. This could be your bedroom, attic, garage anywhere that needs space for a baby.
Clear Out High-Traffic Areas
From your list tackle the high-traffic areas where you will be with the baby. Down below is an example of a list of places you can declutter in those high-traffic areas in your home;
Living Room:
- Get rid of furniture
- Get rid of old decor
- Clear off any unnecessary items on the coffee table
Kitchen:
- Clear out a cabinet for baby
- Throw away old food, freezer-burn food, and expired food
- Make space in the freezer to freeze breast milk
Bathroom:
- Throw away expired medication or products you don’t use
- Create a small space for babies’ bath time items
- Pick a space where the baby’s bathtub will go
Bedroom:
- Go through old clothes
- Clear out the nightstand of any junk
- Clear out an area in the room for the bassinet
- Donate items you don’t need
Nursery (optional – if you have one):
- Take out items that do not belong in the nursery
- Place opened boxes in the garbage
- Set up baby items and get rid of boxes
- Take clothes out of shopping bags and place them inside drawers or closet
Car:
- Clear out any garbage
- Vacuum out car
- Set up the car seat base
- Set up baby camera in the car
How Do You Maintain The Clutter When The Baby Arrives?
Suppose I have to be honest, it’s going to be hard. When the baby arrives, you’ll be sleep-deprived and unable to focus on keeping the house in order.
Follow a little housekeeping rules when you come back from the hospital;
- Wash dishes or use disposable plates
- Put in a load of laundry every other day
- Keep an area clean ( like a coffee table)
Overall….
Decluttering Before the baby arrives helps so much with focusing on the baby when they come. Are you looking to declutter but you live in a small space? I have a blog post that goes over decluttering tips for apartments and small spaces.
