Have a hard time keeping your apartment clean? Here is a step-by-step guide on how to create a cleaning schedule for your apartment!
Sometimes cleaning isn’t always fun, especially when you live on your own, and the only person in charge of cleaning is well- you.
Before, it use to take me over 3 hours to clean my apartment alone. I was huffing and puffing. Plus half of my weekend was wasted cleaning.
I am going to share with you how you can get your weekends back with a cleaning schedule.
This post is all about a cleaning schedule for your apartment.
How do I make a cleaning schedule for my apartment?
Honestly, it’s pretty simple and fast to make! You can create weekly cleaning schedules, daily cleaning schedules, or even monthly cleaning schedules.
Today we’re going to look into creating a weekly cleaning schedule;
Step 1: Divide the apartment into sections
You want to divide your apartment into sections. (Will get to why further on in the article…)
For instance, my apartment is divided into 4 sections; kitchen, living room, bathroom, & bedroom. Those sections have to be cleaned each week.
Dividing my apartment into sections has made the idea of cleaning my apartment much easier and more inviting to do.
Step 2: Write a list of each cleaning task for each section
Now that we divide our apartment into sections, now it’s time to create a list of things we clean every week in each section.
For example, in the kitchen, the places I clean are; counters, cupboards, sink, microwave, stove, dishwasher, etc.
I then do this for all 4 sections of my home. Down below you will see how I created my cleaning checklist for my apartment.
Step 3: Pick Days To Clean Each Section
Now that we have completed steps 1 and 2 now it’s time to pick days on when we are going to clean each room.
For some people, you may choose to pick 1 room a day, or some people clean 2 rooms a day.
Option 1: Cleaning 1 room a day
Monday – Living room
Tuesday – Kitchen
Wednesday – Bathroom
Thursday – Bedroom
Friday – Laundry
Option 2: Cleaning 2 rooms per day
Monday – N/A
Tuesday – Kitchen & Living room
Wednesday – N/A
Thursday – Bedroom & Bathroom
Friday – Laundry
This is all based on your schedule. If you u notice you’re busy on Wednesday, your best bet is to put the easiest room to clean on Wednesday.
This step may take some trial and error to figure out until you can find the perfect cleaning system.
Step 4: Write out your Cleaning Schedule
Now that you have figured out the cleaning schedule you can handle it. Now it’s time to write it down.
Personally, for me, I use Canva and create my own or you can find ones for less than $5 on Etsy
Now that we covered the Weekly Cleaning schedule, let’s go over the Daily cleaning schedules.
How To Make a Daily Cleaning Schedule?
Daily cleaning schedules help you so much with maintaining the cleanliness of your apartment.
I notice with my daily cleaning schedule that I have less to clean on my bigger cleaning days.
To the best tip on how to make a daily cleaning schedule is;
1) See What Gets Dirty The Most
See what needs to be cleaned every day. Is it a pile of dishes every night, wipe the counters, clean the coffee table, and more.
2) Have a Chore Chart
If you live with a roommate or a partner this is a great idea to have people help around the apartment. By creating a chore chart!
Everybody has their own responsibility around the apartment.
3) Add it Into Your Routine
If you live alone and the chores are left up to you, no worries! Add it to your routine.
For example, after you have dinner, maybe try to sweep the floor every night. Or wipe the counters.
4) Make It A Habit
We all have that one habit that we do. It could be letting dishes “soak” in the sink. Or leave our bed unmade.
By making it a habit to get those cleaning tasks down, can drastically help make your place look better.
One habit I created was always washing your dishes right away. That means if I use a plate or a cup, I’m washing it before moving on with my day.
I hope this helps give you some ideas and also gives you a confidence boost that you can have a clean apartment at all times.
